A CFD-DEM Based Numerical Investigation of Debris Flow on Ballasted Railway Track

Debris flow occurring in mountainous areas can cause issues to railway tracks. may large track deformation and even breakage introduce server ballast fouling afterwards. After the flash of a debris flow, fine particles be retained layer significantly reduce drainage, leading lower bearing capacity higher risk lateral stability problems. Moreover, these solid deposit on surface endanger train directly. Unfortunately, those introduced have not been thoroughly investigated. This study presents numerical investigation impact track. Various factors governing are considered, including particle size fraction. Besides, affecting also discussed, such as condition initial void ratio. A coupled computational fluid dynamics discrete element method (CFD-DEM) approach is developed capture interactions between particles/particles, water/air, particles/fluid. The results from this help improve resilience before maintenance strategy after flashing.
